One Plus 3 vs Xiaomi Mi 5 vs LeEco Le Max2 – the battle starts

After months of speculations and leaks, One Plus has finally launched its flagship smartphone, the One Plus 3. The successor to last year’s One Plus 2, the new smartphone brings top of the line hardware, latest software and a new full metal unibody design. One Plus has once again gone with aggressive pricing and it will face fierce competition from the likes of Xiaomi Mi 5 and Le Eco Le Max2. We pitted all three smartphones based on their price, specifications and features, and here’s how they compare.

Price and availability:

OnePlus 3 will set you back by Rs 27,999 and available exclusively via Amazon India. LeEco’s Le Max2 will be offered in two variants – 4GB RAM + 32GB storage for Rs 22,999 and 6GB RAM + 64GB storage for Rs 29,999. The smartphone can be purchased either from Flipkart or from starting June 28. Xiaomi’s Mi 5, on the otherhand, is priced at Rs 24,999 for the 3GB RAM + 32GB internal storage and can be purchased from as well as from flipkart, amazon and snapdeal. One Plus 3 takes the lead here.


The OnePlus 3 houses a 5.5-inch full HD (1080p) Optic AMOLED display. The Mi 5 is equipped with a 5.15-inch full HD (1080p) IPS LCD display. The Le Max2, on the other hand, has a slightly larger 5.7-inch QHD IPS LCD display that runs at a resolution of 2560x1440pixels. Purely based on the resolution, Le Max2 takes the lead here.

Chipset and RAM:

All three smartphones are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 quad-core processor under the hood, paired with Adreno 530 GPU. While the Mi 5 boasts 3GB of RAM, the OnePlus 3 and Le Max2 boast 6GB of RAM. Le Max2 also has an affordable variant that ships with 4GB of RAM. One Plus 3 and Le Max2 are the leaders.


OnePlus 3 comes with 64GB of on-board storage, the Le Max2 comes in 32GB and 64GB storage variants, whereas the Mi 5 comes with 32GB of on-board storage. Unfortunately, none of the smartphones support expandable storage option.


For shutterbugs, the One Plus 3 sports a 16-megapixel rear snapper of aperture f/2.0 with PDAF, LED flash and support for 4K video recording. The Le Max2 sports a 21-megapixel rear camera of aperture f/2.0, and supports PDAF, optical image stabilization (OIS) and 4K video recording capabilities. For selfies and video calling, both smartphones feature an 8-megapixel front-facing camera. The Mi 5, on the other hand, also sports a 16-megapixel rear camera of aperture f/2.0, PDAF, 4-axis OIS and 4K video recording capabilities. For selfies and video calling, it is equipped with a 4-megpaixel front facing camera of aperture f/2.0.

Battery and connectivity:

While the OnePlus 3 and Mi 5 are armed with a 3,000mAh battery, the Le Max2 is armed with a 3,100mAh battery. All smartphones also include fast charging feature and USB Type-C connector for charging and data transfer. Other connectivity features include dual SIM card slots, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, GPS and Bluetooth.

Operating system:

The OnePlus 3 runs on Android Marshmallow-based OxygenOS 3, the Le Max2 also runs on Android Marshmallow-based EUI, whereas the Mi 5 runs on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow-based MIUI 7. Xiaomi has also released the Android Marshmallow-based MIUI 8 beta and the final version will be released in the coming weeks.

Miscellaneous Features:

OnePlus 3 and Le Max2 feature an all metal unibody design whereas the Mi 5 features a metal frame, 2.5D curved glass on the front and glass back. All three smartphones feature a fingerprint scanner for biometric access. The Le Max2 features Qualcomm’s Sense ID 3D ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, which also works with wet and sweaty hands. The Le Max2 also ditches the 3.5mm audio port, and features a USB Type-C audio port with CDLA (Continual Digital Loseless Audio) technology. LeEco claims that the new audio port technology is designed to offer high-quality uncompressed audio listening experience.

On paper, the battle is between the OnePlus 3 and Le Max2. Both smartphones feature 6GB of RAM and 64GB storage, compared to 3GB RAM and 32GB storage on the Mi 5.
