LICT partners with Facebook to help Bangladesh’s businesses

Facebook will provide training on digital marketing under a `#BoostYourBusiness’ program to 10,000 IT-trained youths of Leveraging ICT for Growth, Employment and Governance (LICT) Project of ICT Division within next six months. State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak today inaugurated the training workshop in this regard at Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) auditorium. “The social media has created a new dimension in mutual communication as well as marketing of products,” Palak said adding the leading brand and commercial companies, small and medium entrepreneurs and individuals are using the popular social media Facebook to grow their business and as a result employment opportunities are being created.

The ICT minister said in this age of technology digital marketing skill is imperative for the entrepreneurs to reach out to the customers and ensure access to the global markets, he said and added LICT project in partnership with Facebook will provide training to 10,000 youths on digital marketing and this training will help contribute to Bangladesh’s journey towards digital economy and building Digital Bangladesh. “We are implementing digital Bangladesh under dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and at the instruction of prime minister’s ICT affairs adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy,” he said adding the government put its best endeavor to develop all region and mainstreaming everyone with a view to improving their fate of people. The ICT state minister said the programs like Facebook’s `#BoostYourBusiness’ will contribute by encouraging entrepreneurship, employability and by providing global visibility which will help in the growth of business and will boost the economy.

Executive Director of BCC Swapan Kumar Sarker, LICT Project Director Md. Rezaul Karim, LICT Component Team Leader Sami Ahmed, Head of Programs – South Asia at Facebook, Ritesh Mehta, Chief Executive Officer of Multimedia Content and Communications (MCC) Ashraf Abir were present. More than 300 small and medium entrepreneurs participated in the workshop. The UK based Ernst and Young has already provided training to 14,000 youths of colleges and universities out of 30,000 so far under LICT project of ICT Division. Of them 10,000 are being picked up for digital marketing training under Facebook’s `#BoostYourBusiness’ programme aimed at enhancing their skills. Regarding training of 10,000 youths of Bangladesh Head of Programs of South Asia at Facebook Ritesh Mehta said that through the launch of our #BoostYourBusiness program the Facebook aim to equip SMEs of Bangladesh with the right skills needed to effectively reach out to new customers and expand their businesses. “Small and medium enterprises are the backbones of most economies, and it’s certainly true for Bangladesh. Growth of SMEs will lead to economic growth of Bangladesh,” he said adding SME sector has a great opportunity and potential to create employment. One important area where Facebook can help SMEs of Bangladesh is to provide access to markets, both at home and abroad.
